Abstract: To explore the effect of autobiographical memory function on shiduers' (parents who have lost their only child) prolonged grief, and the moderating role of familism emotion, 372 shiduers were assessed by Thinking About Life Experiences (TALE), Familism Emotion Scale, and Prolonged Grief Questionnaire (PG-13). The results show that:(1) Self function, social function and directive function of shiduers' autobiographical memory have a negative effect on prolonged grief. (2) Familism emotion plays a moderating role between self function and prolonged grief, as well as directive function and prolonged grief. For shiduers whose familism emotion levels are high, self function and directive function can both help them reduce level of prolonged grief, while for shiduers whose familism emotion levels are low, neither self function nor directive function has no effect on prolonged grief. (3) For shiduers with prolonged grief disorder, autobiographical memory function has no effect on prolonged grief level, and familism emotion can no longer plays the moderating role.
