The Effects of Classroom Goal Structures on Students’ Achievement Goals

Abstract: The present study investigated the effect of classroom goal structures on students' achievement goals,and the applicability and validity of the TARGET model in classroom instruction of middle school in China.70 seventh graders from two classes participated in the study.One class as experimental class received the mastery-oriented classroom structure intervention.The other was the control class.This study lasted one learning year.Results showed that two classes had significant difference in students' motivational pattern at post-intervention.Students in the experimental class were more oriented to mastery goals,and had more positive attitude toward learning.
