Abstract: This research explored the impact of mother phubbing (Mphubbing) on primary school students’ academic boredom in home learning activities through two studies (including four experiments), as well as the mediating roles of academic value (academic intrinsic value and academic extrinsic value, respectively) in the association between Mphubbing and academic boredom. The results indicated that: (1) During home learning activities, Mphubbing significantly increased primary school students’ academic boredom. Specifically, the higher the frequency and the longer the duration of Mphubbing, the stronger the feelings of academic boredom experienced by the students; (2) Only academic intrinsic value partially mediated the relationship between Mphubbing and academic boredom. Mphubbing increased students’ academic boredom by reducing their academic intrinsic value. The mediating role of academic extrinsic value in the relationship between Mphubbing and academic boredom was not significant.

Key words: Mphubbing, academic boredom, academic intrinsic value, academic extrinsic value, primary school student
